HISTORY:

The Brown County Deer Classic is a fundraiser that has been established to help earn money to keep St. Mary's Catholic School functioning.

The Brown County Deer Classic was originally started in 1990 by a group of loyal Holy Family parishoners and devoted parents who were striving to keep their small Catholic school up and running.  Private schools, as with all schools, require a lot of money to keep them going.

St. Mary's School is principally funded by the student families and the Holy Family Church parishoners, along with whatever money they can acquire from donations and fundraisers.  Keeping a small school such as St. Mary's functioning requires a lot of donated time and money.  Fundraisers play a huge part in keeping our school up and running.
The Deer Classic first originated at the KC Hall in Mt. Sterling, and very quickly outgrew that location.  It was then that Dot Foods, Inc. was willing to let us use their warehouse at the "Old Dot West" building, and the Deer Classic grew every year even in that location.  Dot Foods was also growing by leaps and bounds and it then became necessary for us to find a new location for the Deer Classic.  In 2005 the Deer Classic moved to the St. Mary's gynasium.  Moving to a new location required a lot of extra planning and a lot of new adjustments, but the committee put together another very successful Deer Classic and received much appreciated praise from the new move.  Many have commented on how much they have enjoyed switching to the new location at the school.
The Deer Classic requires months and months of preparation, as well as donated time throughout the year.  The committe members work year round searching for new ideas, raffle and auction items, etc.  Each year after the Deer Classic is over, the committee will meet for a "final overview" and are amazed each and every year at the success the Deer Classic has brought for the school.  It is during that "final overview" meeting that they begin preparations for the next year's Deer Classic.  So much of the hard work the committee puts in goes unnoticed, but it is not for recognition that they have stepped up to the plate as advocates for the school and church.  Many thanks to everyone who volunteers to make the Deer Classic a success!
We feel very fortunate to have a fundraiser like the Deer Classic that has been so successful in the past in helping with our monetary expenses.  With your support we hope to keep the Deer Classic alive for many years to come!

AGENDA:

Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers being served.  A big thanks to the ladies who put together the appetizers.  Your devotion for the past 18 years has been greatly appreciated!!

The meal will be served at 7:00 p.m.  Again this year at the Deer Classic we will be serving butterfly pork chops, baked potatoes, green beans or corn, salad and dessert.  Tea, water and coffee will be provided with the meal.  A beer wagon will be located under the tent just outside the gynasium doors.  Probably something attendees don't know about the food committee is they can serve around 500 people in about 20 minutes.  That is oustanding!!  A big thanks also to the food committee.  The food just gets better every year!

And if you get a chance while you're sitting at the tables or standing in the food line, take a look at some of the artwork the St. Mary's students have prepared for the Deer Classic.  Every year the kids are asked to draw a picture about the Deer Classic and those pictures are used as place settings on the tables.  They also display their artwork along the walls in the hall and the cafeteria.  The kids are really proud of what they make, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the creativity that they have put into their work!

The Grand Prize Giveaways will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.,

with the Live Auction beginning at 7:45.  Shotguns, rifles, pistols, bows, wild life prints, tree-stands, deer blinds, camoflauge clothes, binoculars, trail-cams, decoys, deer-calls, turkey-calls, hunting knives, hunting amo, and the list of items on the auction goes on and on. Each year we are very fortunate to have Clay Mitchell auctioneering.  Clay does an excellent job!  A big thanks to Clay for all of his hard work!!!!

The Raffle Drawings will begin at 9:00 p.m.  As in the past, there will be numerous items to choose from and, once again, a great selection.  Thanks to everyone who have donated items for the raffles.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Please come and enjoy the Deer Classic along with us.  We will look forward to seeing you all there.  Have a safe hunting season!!
